Edible oil plant is a complete full plant to refine CPO (crude palm oil) into cooking oil. Cooking oil products are often called RBD Palm Olein. The offer plant is devided into 2 capacity, they are the large capacity (250 ton/day) and small capacity (5-10 tons/day). Crude palm oil refining process consist of three stages process i.e dry degumming, bleaching and deodorizing process. Each process has a specific purpose.


Dry Degumming and Bleaching Process

Dry degumming process is useful for removing phospholipids composed of phospatida, protein, residues, carbohydrate, water and resin without reducing the amount of fatty acids. Temperatures used for degumming process is 85°C. Phosphoric acid added to the degumming process to bind the gum in oil. The amount of phosphoric acid is generally about 0.5 to 2 kg for flow rate 3 tons/hour palm oil. Bleaching process is the advanced stage after degumming process. Degummed oil through a bleaching stage separate the pigments contained in the oil using the active material so that the color becomes brighter. Active material in this process is bleaching earth. At the end of process, bleched oil filtering by two pressure leaves filters to separate bleaching earth.


Deodorizing Process

Deodorisasi is a method of reduction volatile components from bleached oil. Volatile components caused the odor. So, deodorizer is able to reduce the odor. Deodorizing process is typically used in high temperature (220-260°C) with pressure of 2 millibars. Deodorizing occurs in the double wall packed column dedorizer. Final product of this process is RBD Palm Oil (Rifined Bleached Deodorized Palm Oil). To produce cooking oil, additional process is required (wet fractionation principle). Wet fractionation produces olein (cooking oil) and stearin using a filter press machine.
